What is stainless steel cookware?

Ok so stainless steel is not just steel, in fact it is a mixture of metals or an alloy as that is called. It combines iron, chromium, nickel and other metals. Do you know why stainless steel cookware looks so polished, it’s because of the nickel in the alloy, which adds the polished look and doesn’t let it rust. The bottom of the utensils in stainless steel cookware normally has a copper or aluminum bottom, which allows good conduction of heat.


Stainless steel cookware advantages

There are some advantages of stainless steel cookware that make it so popular. These are:
-Durable: stainless steel is tough and can last for years and decades. Stainless steel cookware is not prone to chipping, rusting or even staining. It won’t dent and scratch easily as well. It is basically indestructible kind of cookware. It is easy to clean and to wash in the dishwasher. It can also handle extreme temperatures.
-Hard and Non-porous: stainless steel is hard and non-porous which makes is crack proof, leak proof and spatter proof.
-Appearance: stainless steel cookware will remain looking brand new for a long time and this is not because of its high maintenance. This is because of the nickel in the stainless steel alloy, which keeps it looking polished and new.
-Flavor preservation: stainless steel cookware is made in such a manner that none of the metals in the alloy will be tasted in the food cooked and neither will any of the material come in the food, this is thanks to its non-stick protective coating.
-Heating: since stainless steel is not such a good conductor of heat, a copper or aluminum bottom is added to improve its heat transfer. This ensures that the food is cooked evenly and quickly.
-Recyclable: stainless steel cookware is completely recyclable. In an event where the cookware does get damaged, it can be recycled or salvaged.
-Safe: while using stainless steel cookware, you need not be worried about any kind of metal poisoning, unless you are allergic to nickel.



Stainless Steel Cookware Cleaning Tips

-Stainless steel cookware is very low maintenance, you do not have to worry about cracks, dents and stains, but it does need cleaning. Here are some tips on cleaning stainless steel cookware:
-If you want to remove water stains from your stainless steel cookware, try using a soft cloth dabbed in olive oil on it. Rub it well and clean with another dry soft cloth. Your stainless steel cookware is ready to shine.
-If it’s a stainless steel electric skillet or roaster that you have and want to clean, just splash some club soda on it to clean it out.
-Though stainless steel cookware is spot and stain free, there are chances of those rare spots and stains. To get rid of these, use vinegar.
-If its grease you are trying to clean and fight with, a mixture of ammonia and warm water will work well. Just remember to rinse the ammonia completely and thoroughly before using the cookware.
-If the rare rust is occurring, use a common household cleaner.

-Never use steel wool on stainless steel cookware this will scratch it.
